Recent Accomplishments. I have secured funding and implemented efforts in six areas during the past 5 years – public health infrastructure, community-based prevention, primary care delivery, health insurance access and policies, and measuring quality of care. Here are examples:

  • Measuring Quality of Care – Help manage and facilitate a leadership group of heart surgeons and cardiac services administrators in 16 hospitals and 10 surgical practices in the Commonwealth of Virginia . The group is launching a clinical/financial information system to improve quality and control costs.
  • Health Insurance Coverage and Policy – Helped start a health insurance purchasing coop in Kansas and consult with a non-profit association establishing a premium subsidy program for small businesses in Kansas . Won and directed a state health policy grant on expanding coverage.
  • Community-based Prevention – Started and managed a program with Medicaid to promote community-based health education and disease prevention in underserved minority communities.
  • Access to Primary Care – Wrote grants totaling $4.75 million for the Medical Society of Sedgwick County's ( Wichita KS ) Project Access and the Community Health Council's ( Manhattan KS ) regional safety net programs. Provided technical assistance and evaluation services.
  • Public Health Improvement – Secured funds and directed a Governor's Public Health Improvement Commission in Kansas to promote statewide infrastructure. Wrote state public health improvement plan and needs assessment. 

Skills. I have experience bringing people together in collaborations and innovative endeavors. Skills include advocacy, defining objectives, brainstorming, securing funding, mediating differences, problem solving, and evaluating progress. I have experience in demographics, health planning, project management, finance, information systems (management, purchasing, programming, database and systems design), writing grants, legislative interface, facilitating groups, and marketing.

 

Interests. I am willing to take risks, try out new ideas, and make a contribution in one of the following:

 

•  Implementing Quality Improvement – Developing information products, stimulating clinical innovation, documenting results, and replicating at other sites.

•  Improving Population Health – Developing funding, using incentives, reducing disparities, and promoting lifestyle improvements.

•  Promoting Organizational Change and Collaboration – Ensuring that appropriate organization capacity and infrastructure are in place to support innovations.

•  Marketing – Presenting ideas and providing support in sales cycle.

•  Promoting Physical Activity – Implementing best practices in cross training to maintain wellness in healthy groups and reduce costs in at-risk populations.
